We’ll study colour theory and colourisation techniques, as well as research and analyse trends. We’ll look at the differences in design between home product and fashion textiles and how to design for a market segment.
Perfect for: Those wanting a more holistic overview of surface design and to perfect their technique.
Course sizes: 4 – 6 people at our Carlton studio (please note, there is no disability access)
Duration: 20 hours
What’s provided: All art-making materials, inspiration books, images and colour guides, research materials and refreshments.
What you’ll get out of it: Begin building a portfolio with the surface designs you create, or print them onto fabric, products or garments.
What to bring: A computer with Adobe Creative Suite CS5, CS6 or CC software installed, and a healthy thirst for knowledge!
Paper Pattern Print workshops
Immerse yourself in creative play during one of our Paper Pattern Print workshops. Learn how to design original motifs and basic units by hand, then digitise these into repeat patterns using a smartphone or tablet. We’ll play with scale and repetition and create gorgeous surface design artwork and ready-to-go digital files for printing your designs onto paper, cloth and products.
Perfect for: Beginners wanting a hands-on, simple surface design experience or to gain a new hobby. Perhaps you’ve fallen in love with the colouring for mindfulness craze and want to take it to the next level with digitisation!
Workshop sizes: 4 – 8 people at our studio (please note, there is no disability access), or larger groups at a location of your choice.
Duration: 3.5 hours
What’s provided: All art-making materials, inspiration books, images and colour guides, and refreshments.
What you’ll get out of it: Take home up to six designs that you can print onto fabric via websites like Next State and Spoonflower, or directly onto products or garments. Get creative and connect with new people in a fun, nurturing environment.
