Paper Pattern Print is a whirlwind workshop by design educator and SURFACE 1°22 founder Emily Wills.
Saturday 14 October, 2017
9:30am – 1:30pm
Paper Pattern Print is our signature workshop – it’s perfect for beginners wanting a hands-on, simple surface design experience or to gain a new hobby. Paper Pattern Print doesn’t require knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and is not overly technical. We create repeat patterns using low-fi smartphone and tablet technology.
Emily’s love for the applied arts, illustration and design led her to develop a simple, hands-on workshop to introduce participants to the process of designing artwork for surface and textile design using traditional art making methods. This workshop is super fun, and is a great go-to technique for more experienced artists and designers to use to break creative blocks.
Emily will guide you through the creative process of motif and basic unit design, and demonstrate how to turn these into repeat patterns using an app on your smartphone or tablet. We’ll play with scale and repetition and create gorgeous surface design artwork and ready to go digital files for printing your designs onto paper or cloth.
Our intimate Paper Pattern Print workshops are hosted by Emily in her Carlton home studio. Sitting around a large timber table in a light filled nook off the kitchen, Emily will provide an unforgettable evening of inspiration, knowledge and skills over a cup of tea and art making.
