SURFACE 1°22
Surface Design describes the process of creating 2D and 3D ideas that are visually and tactually communicated through pattern and motif on a variety of surfaces from fashion fabrics, products, interiors, architectural exteriors and applied arts.
Design collective SURFACE 1°22 features like minded design professionals from diversely trained backgrounds working in Singapore's creative industries from Fine Art to Interior, Textile and Fashion Design.
The opening of the inaugural SURFACE 1°22 exhibition at Singapore's Institute of Contemporary Arts in November 2010 showcased a variety of textile manipulations and surface applications exploring themes of compatibility and crossover between processes and techniques to create gallery pieces that could be both seen and touched.
In February 2011, SURFACE 1°22 collaborated with One Trick Pony to bring The Clothespeg Project Volume 4 - to Singapore.
In August 2011, SURFACE 1°22 collaborated with the Institute for Contemporary Arts, Singapore to curate an exhibition titled Paper. Pattern. Print which explored the notion of surface design.
In February 2012, SURFACE 1°22 invites local artists and signers to submit works looking at the cross-over between illustration and stitch. The exhibition which will open on February 16th is titled Pens & Needles.
